52 Willys Station Wagon

Update!!!

Here Is A Couple Pics Of The Motor Before And After.

   Before

Ready To be Put Back Together.

I think I'm Going To Like The Black And Orange Look.

The Motor Being Installed.

We Tried To Do The Front Wheel Drive Thing, But It Seemed Like Too Much Work.

Our Before Shot...

We Still Have A Ways To Go, But Here She Is Today!

Our Latest Project.

We Bought This One Pretty Cheap.

It May Be Awhile Before We Get Her Back On The Road.

But We Hope Not. We Really Want To Do Some Wheeling With This One.

This Will Be A Nice Addition To Go With The 42 GPW Flat Fender!

This Is How She Looked When We Brought Her Home.

We Were Told That She Ran But Had A Bad Clutch.

Here Is What We Were Told...

250 Chevy Straight 6

Dana 25 front (? 0:00 ratio)

Dana 44 rear (4:10)

T90 Transmission

Spicer 18 Transfer Case

6 volt

Every wire cut and hanging.

But It Was Driven Before It Was Torn Apart...Bla Bla Bla

 So the adventure began!

Oh Did I Mention That There Was A Straight 6 Chevy 250 In It?

This Motor Was Never Running In This Rig. Oh Yeah It's Not A 250 It's A 292 Straight 6.

As We Found Out Some Time Later.

Notice The Nice Motor Mounts?

Our Son Jeff And His Friend David Working The Metal.

They Are In High School And Taking An Auto Body Class.

Well This Should Give Them A Little Extra Curricular Lessons.

Now it's Time To Start Some Fab Work And See If This Thing Is Going To Run.

Thanks To Our Friend Bob Yarnell, And His Fine Work On Fitting This Beast Into This Rig.

He Was Able To Engineer And Fabricate On The Fly With The Best Of Them!

This Was A Real Challenge.  Excellent Work Bob!

This Motor Is Really Long, And It's Going To Take Some Cutting And Welding To Make This Baby Fit!

This Is The Frame And All The Crap That Was Cut Off It To Clean It Up.

Here Is What Had To Be Done To Make It Fit.

The Motor Is Just Sitting There . It Will Be Squared Up And The Mounts Installed.

If Anybody Ever Tells You That Chevy 235's, 250's And 292 Motor Mounts Are The Same...

Don't Believe Them. It Took Me A Lot Of Phone Calls And A Lot Of Standing At The Counter Of The Local Auto Parts Store.

I Got A Lot Of... Are You Stupid? It Tells Me In The Computer That They Are All The Same...

The Mounts Going In And Mounted To The Frame.

Notice That The Drivers Side Mount Bolts Sit Back? And The Top Bolt Actually Sits About An Inch From The Plate.

New Alternator And Radiator

Reworked Throttle Cable

At This Point We Have Fired The Motor Put In The Rear Drive Line. And Have Driven Her Down The Street.

We're Going To Get New Body Bushing And Redo Them.

Update!

New Body Bushings! And You Won't Believe How Much These Baby's Didn't Cost!

They Are A Bit Taller. But We Were Looking For A Little Bit Of a Lift.

UPDATE!

We Have Upgraded The Front Axle. We Have Installed An Open Knuckle Dana 30 With 4.10 Gears.

We Also Did A Reverse Shackle.

A Saginaw Power Steering Box And A Power Steering Pump.

Custom Power Steering Pulley And Power Steering Pump Bracket.

Put In A Set Of Seat Belts.

And A New Fuel Sending Unit And Gauge.

Update!

We Pulled The Motor And Did A Rebuild. We Modified A Few More Pieces To The Puzzle.

We Have Reworked Some Of What The Previous Owners Started.

We Had To Do This Because None Of The Pieces Can Together At The End.

The Input Shaft On The Transmission Didn't Quite Meet The Crank.

The Snout On The Transmission Was The Short Version. You Guessed It! We Needed The Long Version.

The Offset On The Pressure Plate Was .060 Out.  It's A Wonder She Even Moved The Last Time She Was Driven.

The Adapter Plates Were About 1/2" Too Thick.

As We Tore Into The Motor, We Checked The Numbers On The Cam Shaft

With Our Good Friend Rich At Our Local NAPA Auto Parts Store.

And We Were In For Yet One More Surprise. The 292 We Have Mention

So Many Time Before. It's A Straight 6 194 Chevy. Well I'm Too Far Into This Motor

To Anything Else But Press On Forward!

The Motor Runs Really Well And I Need To Take Her Up Into The Mountains And See

What She Will Do!
